Nearly 25,000 households in Queensland's southeast woke up lacking electricity on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms swept through the region, generating wind gusts hitting 109km/h.
Massive Frozen Precipitation and Widespread Destruction
Homeowners reported large ice chunks reaching sizes of seven centimeters in some areas. Weather authorities verified that various areas across the state had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Utility workers were working to restore energy supply throughout the affected regions, with approximately seventy teams activated to handle the widespread outages.
Victoria's Weather Woes
Simultaneously, nearly one thousand residents in the southern state also encountered power outages after the metropolitan area recorded its most precipitation in over 500 days.
State Emergency Services responded to 598 requests for assistance across the area, mainly for property damage but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

At one point on the previous day, over twenty-eight thousand power users in the state were without power.
Climate Outlook
Moist weather were forecast to persist along much of Queensland's east this week as a low-pressure trough continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.
The following day was expected to become the wettest day, with continued severe weather risk expected across various areas of both regions.
Safety Concern
Public health experts alerted that there was an higher risk of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the northern rural areas, especially given the ongoing climate situation.
