This Special Release Pikachu Promo Aims to Curb the Influence Against Speculators
Marking the launch of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, a unique collaboration has been formed. Pokémon's creators alongside the Natural History Museum will launch a pop-up shop featuring special items. Enthusiasts can look forward to offerings including stationery, plushes, and artwork that are drawing from the institution's aesthetic. The big draw, however, will be a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a free bonus at the pop-up. This shop is scheduled both on-site at the museum and its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.
The Book That Inspires the Partnership
Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a highly anticipated tome filled with beautiful artwork that show Pokémon in their wild environments. It's essentially is the kind of research an in-world scientist could produce once trainers submit their data, alternatively a naturalist's journal might have created had the Galapagos were populated by flying-types instead of finches. Part of the charm stems from the book's scholarly approach, treating Pokémon as a legitimate subject for inquiry. Author Yoshinari Yonehara and illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita both hold PhDs in ecology and behavioral science.
What Makes This Special Card Different
It is common to issue special edition promos celebrating big events or brand collaborations. Many such promotional cards often feature the famous electric rodent that acts as the franchise mascot. The factor setting this new promotion apart is its distinctly bigger dimensions. Although precise specs were not immediately shared, availability is guaranteed to be strictly limited, with fans able to get only a single card with each transaction.
Curbing Speculator Interest
Per an official statement, some of the merchandise may also be available outside the museum walls. But, a wider release is slated for select retailers in the United Kingdom. Critically, collectors cannot acquire the card through the official web shop. While reseller interest is inevitable, it appears they will have trouble hoarding mass quantities on this occasion. If you're unable to attend, there is an alternative like fossil-themed display coming to the Windy City in the coming months.
"All profits of sales made in the Museum shop and its web shop, which covers Pokémon products, go toward the Natural History Museum’s non-profit work. That encompasses the research of 400 scientists who are scientific inquiry to discover answers to the planetary emergency," the statement notes.
