The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
