Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, most notably the pastel suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

This news arrives less than a month after he debuted his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show opened with creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her US tour after assuming the title.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Performative Style: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The industry says farewell to a true visionary whose impact on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
