President Trump Invites Relatives of Injured Guard Members to the White House
Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the White House.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Incident
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their memory.
Presidential Invitation
The president said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump informed reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Support
Community members assembled over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to honor Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“Sarah was the individual that instructors hoped for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the press. “She was kind, compassionate and always ready to assist people.”
Service plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Judicial Actions and Government Adjustments
Authorities have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The event prompted the government to halt asylum applications and cease providing visas to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Wolfe
The airman, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told the program that she aimed to meet with his relatives.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had courage,” he addressed the audience at the service. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
