Mikel Arteta Hails a More Dependable Squad and Confirms Kai Havertz Setback.

The Gunners' boss remains confident that his squad can continue to cope with fitness issues after confirming that forward Kai Havertz will not return for the coming weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

Havertz has been sidelined since August due to knee surgery. Initially expected to be available earlier in December, the manager stated the player faced a hurdle when stepping up his rehabilitation and was unable to move forward “the next phase.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a squad that is considerably steadier and has increased versatility,” stated the manager.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This development presents a dilemma for Wednesday’s home game against Brentford. Arteta must choose between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who scored in an unfamiliar forward role last weekend, or reinstating Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly after a fitness issue as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is also an option following a lengthy absence.

Defensive Concerns Persist

Additional concerns affect centre-back William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the weekend encounter. As a result, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably continue in central defence for the table-toppers.

Arteta feels the significant outlay on new players in the last transfer window has left Arsenal in a more robust situation to handle such unavailability.

Squad Depth Vital for Title Challenge

In response if more options was aiding their league challenge, the manager agreed. “Indeed, since the current term has been worse in certain positions, and now what’s happening with the defence,” he continued.

“Our previous experiences taught us that we need to utilize players in different positions, and they have to be able to perform various functions if we are to fight at the highest level. And the instance of Mikel is just the best one.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Havertz

Commenting on the setback noted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided additional context. “He was doing everything. He failed to advance to the next level and now the signs are like we have solved that issue.”

Arteta expressed his keenness to have him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. I mean, Havertz is someone that, in my view, I value highly for the qualities he offers to the team, but his personality, his attitude. I observe his frustration while sidelined.”

“His availability record is phenomenal, he's usually fit, and I look forward to have him back around the team and playing because I believe it’s going to be a huge lift.”
