US air traffic controllers are increasingly seeking additional employment and reporting ill, as they continue to work without pay during the federal closure, the transportation secretary has stated.

"These professionals are wearing thin," the official informed a news outlet on Sunday, as certain aircraft were grounded on the California shoreline due to personnel deficits.

Following the government shut down on 1 October, air traffic controllers, who are considered critical staff, were instructed to continue performing their duties uncompensated.

But a number have been absent, leading terminals to halt or reduce their flight operations, which has added to setbacks caused by weather and additional factors.

Over 3,000 American flights were postponed on the weekend, and Duffy stated he anticipates the situation to deteriorate further.

"I am seeing the pressure," Duffy said in an interview on a weekend program, noting that he had spoken to multiple professionals to listen to their concerns firsthand.

"They are pursuing side jobs, they're out there searching, 'Can I work for Uber, am I able to find an alternative of earnings to make ends meet?'" he continued.

The secretary added that on Saturday twenty-two notifications at airports said travel would be delayed due to a shortage of workers - among the peak since the shutdown started.

The American federal closure entered its 26th day on the weekend, rendering it the second-longest shutdown in the past.

Duffy has consistently cautioned that aviation regulators would reduce the quantity of planes in the sky if there is a shortage of security staff.

In his conversation, he would not answer directly when questioned if it was secure to travel by air in the United States, and instead issued a direct appeal to controllers.

"I need my controllers concentrating on the airspace, not on the finances at home," the official said.

On that day, some planes were stopped at Los Angeles International Airport due to employee deficits, leading to disruption at the fifth most active airport in the nation and one of the busiest in the globe, as well as other flights stretching upward to the city of Oakland, California.

The FAA alert was issued at 08:45 local time on Sunday. Numerous trips were back on schedule before noon.

Travel at Newark Liberty International Airport, though, were delayed an average of 82 minutes due to personnel issues, and the authority said Dallas Fort-Worth, the second-busiest airport in the US, could experience difficulties from reduced staff later in the day.

The FAA advised passengers in California to consult carriers about revised flight schedules.

The situation comes ahead of Game 3 of the World Series, which is due to be played in LA on Monday evening, and approximately four weeks prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, among the peak periods to travel by air in the US.

Strain on American aviation contributed to ending a government shutdown in two thousand nineteen. At the time, the halt had entered its fifth week and disrupted flight services, including pilot training.

It prompted several flight controllers to remain absent on the same day on January 25, 2019, briefly halting travel at LaGuardia Airport in New York.

That same day, the former president, who at the period was in his first term as leader, consented to approve a temporary funding measure, bringing an end to the federal closure after thirty-five days.
