Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.
An important representative commented the attack rendered him without words and had to be solved rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
