Recreational competitors will have an opportunity to claim A$1m when they take on elite players - headed by leading player the Spanish champion - in a single-point showdown before the Australian Grand Slam

Organizers of the Australian Open have revealed the Million Dollar One Point Slam, which will pair 10 amateur players against top-ranked players in a elimination competition at the Australian Open venue

How the Event Will Work

Players will play 'the classic hand game' to determine who serves or receives, and the competitor securing the point will progress to the next round

The winner of the event will take home approximately half a million pounds

Contextually, players who made it to the final four of the primary tournaments in the 2025 Australian Open won over a million Australian dollars

The US Open organized a revamped, independent combined gender tournament in the eighth month which encouraged top singles players to compete, with the winners receiving a million-dollar prize

The Australian Open held its first-ever quick-fire event this year, but the cash prize was A$60,000 and it had limited exposure

Andrey Rublev was the only top-10 player participating, and his campaign concluded when he sent the single service opportunity allowed failing to clear the net in his penultimate round

Event Details

Planners have not said exactly how the event will function, but it is projected to follow a similar format to the previous version

The elite players will be allowed to make one service and the non-professionals on two occasions - as is the norm in conventional tennis

While it is unclear how the bracket will work, there will be five knockout rounds and the site will be the primary court rather than the smaller Kia Arena

The last matches will be held in a nighttime schedule instead of midday timing

Participation Information

Local players - or overseas competitors who have signed up with the national federation - can compete in 'One Point Slam' tournaments at their local tennis clubs

The winners of the local competitions will then go into a selection process, with an everyday competitor from every state and territory selected to compete in the 'grand finale' in a night session on mid-January

There will also be a qualifying draw in the final month which amateurs, developing professionals, well-known figures and sport stars can enter

It commences on the starting date and the two winners will go into the following day's 'grand finale' with the additional everyday players and top-ranked athletes

"No matter your experience, the overall victor will claim the prize. Registrations will open soon at facilities nationwide"

Tournament officials said there were "further celebrities to be revealed shortly", while the official website said "celebrities" would be taking part
